Sweetgum Balls
Sweet gum
Balls sure do look like pine cones because they look like a spike ball.
It is commonly called a "gum ball" or "birdball". They are found on Maple Trees, and they're compound fruits in the
inside. They have a long stem so when they're ripe they will fall, they'll usually be ripe all year. Sweetgum balls are very sharp
and hard, so be careful when you pick them up. I wouldn't eat them
because the fruit inside may not be edible! This gumball is called
a sweetgum because of the sticky liquid that oozes from cuts made in
its trunk or branches. If the tree grows in the south, then the liquid
will be sweeter than if it grew up way up north.
